Background of the study
Arabic language learning is central to Islamic education; however, traditional methods often rely on rote memorization and static instructional materials that may not fully engage students. In Islamic schools in Kano, there is a growing need for innovative teaching tools that can make the learning process more interactive and visually stimulating. A computer-based animation system offers an effective solution by presenting Arabic language concepts through dynamic animations, interactive exercises, and multimedia content (Adeola, 2023). Such a system can illustrate grammar rules, vocabulary, and sentence structure in an engaging format that caters to diverse learning styles. By integrating audio-visual cues, the system enables students to associate sounds with written words, thereby reinforcing pronunciation and comprehension. Moreover, the interactive nature of the system encourages active participation and self-paced learning, which can improve retention and boost confidence among learners (Ibrahim, 2024). Despite its potential benefits, challenges such as high development costs, limited technical infrastructure in some Islamic schools, and the need for culturally appropriate content have hindered widespread adoption. This study aims to design a computer-based animation system tailored for Arabic language learning in Islamic schools in Kano. It will evaluate the system’s effectiveness in enhancing language acquisition and propose strategies to overcome implementation challenges, ensuring that the technology aligns with educational and cultural contexts (Chinaza, 2023).
Statement of the problem
Islamic schools in Kano face persistent challenges in teaching Arabic due to traditional methods that rely heavily on static content and memorization. These methods often fail to engage students or address diverse learning needs, resulting in lower proficiency and retention. While computer-based animation systems can offer a more interactive and engaging approach, their implementation is limited by factors such as high development costs, lack of technical infrastructure, and insufficient training for teachers. In addition, ensuring that the animated content is culturally sensitive and pedagogically sound presents another layer of complexity. These issues hinder the effective integration of digital tools in Arabic language instruction, creating a gap between potential technological benefits and actual learning outcomes. This study seeks to address these challenges by developing and evaluating a computer-based animation system for Arabic language learning. The research will assess its impact on student engagement, comprehension, and retention, and will identify technical and operational barriers that must be overcome to ensure successful implementation (Ibrahim, 2024; Adeola, 2023).
Objectives of the study
To design an interactive animation system for Arabic language learning.
To evaluate its effectiveness in enhancing student engagement and comprehension.
To identify challenges and propose strategies for sustainable implementation.
Research questions
How does computer-based animation enhance Arabic language learning?
What technical and operational challenges affect system adoption?
How can content be optimized to meet cultural and educational needs?
Significance of the study
This study is significant as it proposes an innovative solution to improve Arabic language learning in Islamic schools. The findings will inform educators and policymakers on effective strategies for integrating digital animation tools into the curriculum, thereby improving language proficiency and student engagement (Adeola, 2023; Ibrahim, 2024).
Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to the development and evaluation of a computer-based animation system for Arabic language learning in Islamic schools in Kano. Limitations include high production costs, limited access to technology, and the need for teacher training.
